Project
This assignment entailed creating a publication from a topic of our choosing, prioritizing the demonstration of typography and layout skills. I decided to create a publication for the National Archives Foundation to tell the story of "Project Blue Book": a decade-long period of international UFO investigations conducted by the United States. Source text and photography were curated and edited from the hundreds of thousands of creative commons materials in the National Archives.

Approach
The book's 12" x 12" dimensions, shifting typographic forms, and photographic content invoke an uncanny user experience for the reader, mimicking the high emotions experienced during the UFO craze. Spreads were inkjet printed onto tabloid paper and scanned at high resolution to capture the grain of inkjet dot patterns. Analog textures within the publication reinforced themes of cognitive dissonance and distorted communication.

Outcome
The book was printed and successfully conveyed a unique user experience for the reader based on aspects of its user experience, but also my customization of cover materials and paper.
